Bikin Tenang, Ini Garansi Wuling buat Eksion

Wuling Motors has officially introduced a multi-layered after-sales program for its latest model, the Eksion, aimed at addressing the primary concerns of Indonesian consumers regarding the long-term reliability and maintenance of electrified vehicles. This strategic move, announced in Jakarta, includes a groundbreaking lifetime warranty for core components, structured periodic maintenance schedules, and emergency assistance services. By offering these protections, Wuling seeks to solidify its position as a leader in the Indonesian electric vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) sectors, where consumer anxiety regarding battery longevity and resale value remains a significant barrier to adoption.

The centerpiece of this after-sales initiative is the Lifetime Core Component Warranty, a bold statement of confidence in the vehicle’s engineering. This warranty is designed to provide "peace of mind" to owners by covering the most expensive and technologically complex parts of the powertrain. According to Maulana Hakim, Aftersales Director of Wuling Motors, the program is a direct response to the evolving needs of the market. "Through this after-sales service, we want to provide a comfortable and worry-free vehicle ownership experience for consumers," Hakim stated during the press briefing. He emphasized that the protection is comprehensive, ranging from general warranties to the lifetime coverage of essential EV and PHEV systems.

The Three Pillars of the Lifetime Core Component Warranty

Wuling has identified three specific components that are critical to the operation of the Eksion and are often the most costly to repair or replace outside of a warranty period. The Lifetime Core Component Warranty specifically targets these areas to ensure that the vehicle remains operational throughout its entire lifecycle.

First is the Power Battery, which serves as the primary energy source for the vehicle. In the context of the global transition to green energy, the health of the battery is the most scrutinized aspect of any electric vehicle. By offering a lifetime warranty, Wuling effectively removes the financial risk associated with battery degradation or failure, which can otherwise cost a significant percentage of the vehicle’s original purchase price.

Second is the Drive Motor. This component is responsible for converting electrical energy into mechanical movement, driving the wheels of the Eksion. Unlike traditional internal combustion engines, electric motors have fewer moving parts but require precision engineering and specialized cooling systems. Wuling’s warranty ensures that any manufacturing defects or operational failures in the motor are covered indefinitely.

Third is the Motor Controller Unit (MCU). Often described as the "brain" of the electric powertrain, the MCU regulates the flow of electricity from the battery to the motor and manages regenerative braking. Given the complexity of the software and hardware integration within the MCU, having a lifetime guarantee provides a significant safety net for the consumer against electronic malfunctions.

Eligibility and Strict Maintenance Requirements

While the lifetime warranty is a highly attractive proposition, Wuling has outlined specific criteria that must be met for the coverage to remain valid. These conditions are designed to ensure that the vehicles are treated with the necessary care and that all servicing is performed by qualified technicians using genuine parts.

The lifetime warranty is strictly reserved for the first owner of the vehicle and is intended for private use only. This means that vehicles used for commercial purposes, such as ride-hailing services or logistics, may not qualify for the lifetime extension and will instead fall under standard warranty terms. Additionally, Wuling has set a mileage cap of 30,000 kilometers per year. This limitation is a standard industry practice to differentiate between typical personal use and high-intensity commercial use.

Furthermore, owners are required to adhere to a strict periodic maintenance schedule within the official Wuling service network. Using non-genuine spare parts or seeking service at unauthorized workshops will void the lifetime warranty. This requirement ensures that Wuling can monitor the health of the core components and perform preventative maintenance that aligns with the manufacturer’s engineering standards.

Resale Value and Warranty Transferability

One of the most innovative aspects of Wuling’s policy is how it handles the transfer of ownership. In the Indonesian automotive market, resale value is a top priority for buyers. Traditionally, warranties on high-tech components are non-transferable or expire quickly, leading to a sharp depreciation in the value of used EVs. Wuling has addressed this by allowing a portion of the warranty to carry over to subsequent owners.

Danang Wiratmoko, Product Communication Manager of Wuling Motors, clarified the transition process for the second owner. If a vehicle is sold, the "lifetime" status of the core component warranty is revoked, but the components remain protected under a generous time-bound policy. "In the second year, if the car is sold to someone else, they still receive the general warranty. The battery warranty for the second buyer will be the remainder of an 8-year period," Wiratmoko explained. For example, if a car is sold after two years of ownership, the second buyer still enjoys six years of protection on the battery and other core components. This policy is expected to stabilize the resale price of the Eksion, making it a more viable financial investment for the initial purchaser.

Comparative Analysis of Maintenance Costs: EV vs. PHEV

Wuling has also released detailed projections for the maintenance costs of the Eksion, highlighting the differences between the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) variants. These figures are crucial for consumers calculating the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

For the EV variant, the maintenance schedule is remarkably lean. Because electric vehicles lack an internal combustion engine, there are no oil changes, spark plug replacements, or timing belt adjustments. The service interval is set at every 5,000 kilometers, focusing primarily on the reducer oil, AC filters, battery coolant, and brake fluid. Wuling estimates that the total cost of maintenance for the EV variant over 5.5 years or 55,000 kilometers is approximately Rp 3.3 million. This low maintenance cost is one of the primary selling points of the Eksion EV, offering significant long-term savings compared to traditional gasoline vehicles.

In contrast, the PHEV variant requires a more complex maintenance regimen due to its dual-powertrain nature. It features both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, necessitating a wider array of service items. The maintenance interval for the PHEV is set at 7,500 kilometers, with the first service occurring at the 5,000-kilometer mark. Required components for service include engine oil, gaskets, oil filters, Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) oil, spark plugs, air filters, and carbon canisters. Additionally, the PHEV requires coolant for both the hybrid system and the combustion engine. As a result, the estimated total maintenance cost for the PHEV variant over 5.5 years or 42.500 kilometers is significantly higher, reaching approximately Rp 14.2 million.

Background and Strategic Context of the Eksion Launch

The introduction of the Eksion and its accompanying warranty package comes at a pivotal time for Wuling Motors Indonesia. Since establishing its manufacturing facility in Cikarang, West Java, in 2017, Wuling has rapidly transitioned from a newcomer to a dominant force in the Indonesian automotive landscape. The company’s "ABC" stories—referring to the Air ev, BinguoEV, and Cloud EV—have redefined the local electric vehicle market by making EVs accessible to the middle class.

The Eksion represents the next phase of this expansion. By offering both EV and PHEV options, Wuling is targeting a broader demographic, including those who are ready for full electrification and those who still require the flexibility of a hybrid system for long-distance travel across the Indonesian archipelago. The Indonesian government’s aggressive push for vehicle electrification, supported by VAT incentives and the development of a local battery ecosystem, provides a fertile ground for Wuling’s strategy.

Industry Implications and Market Reaction

Industry analysts view Wuling’s lifetime warranty as a direct challenge to other major players in the Indonesian market, such as Hyundai, BYD, and Chery. By offering a "lifetime" guarantee, Wuling is setting a new benchmark for after-sales service that competitors may be forced to match. This "warranty war" ultimately benefits the consumer, as it pushes manufacturers to improve product quality and provide better long-term support.

Initial reactions from automotive observers suggest that the Eksion’s warranty package will be a decisive factor for hesitant buyers. The clear distinction in maintenance costs between the EV and PHEV models also allows consumers to make more informed decisions based on their driving habits and budget. While the PHEV has higher maintenance costs, it offers the convenience of gasoline refueling, which remains a necessity in regions where the charging infrastructure is still under development.

Conclusion: A Commitment to Sustainable Mobility

Wuling’s comprehensive after-sales program for the Eksion is more than just a marketing tactic; it is a fundamental part of the company’s long-term vision for Indonesia. By providing a lifetime warranty on core components and transparent maintenance costs, Wuling is removing the "fear of the unknown" that often accompanies new technology.

As the Indonesian government works toward its goal of having 2 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030, the success of models like the Eksion will depend heavily on the strength of the manufacturer’s support system. With this latest announcement, Wuling Motors has positioned itself not just as a seller of cars, but as a long-term partner for Indonesian consumers in their transition to sustainable and efficient mobility. The blend of technological innovation and robust after-sales protection ensures that the Eksion will be a formidable contender in the rapidly evolving Southeast Asian automotive market.
