Jetour T1 i-DM Debuts in Indonesia as Brand’s First Hybrid SUV Offering Long Range and Rugged Design

The Indonesian automotive landscape witnessed a significant milestone on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as Jetour officially introduced its first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to the local market, the Jetour T1 i-DM. Launched at a high-profile event in Tangerang, the SUV represents a strategic pivot for the Chinese manufacturer, which had previously focused on conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) models. The T1 i-DM, characterized by its "boxy" and rugged aesthetic, introduces the Intelligent Dual Mode (i-DM) technology to Indonesian consumers, promising a blend of high-performance electrification and the long-distance reliability required for the archipelago’s diverse geography.

The arrival of the T1 i-DM is not merely a product launch but a statement of intent from Jetour Sales Indonesia. As the global automotive industry shifts toward sustainable energy, Jetour is positioning itself as a bridge for consumers who are intrigued by electric mobility but remain hesitant due to infrastructure limitations. By offering a PHEV that boasts a combined range of over 1,000 kilometers, the brand aims to capture a growing segment of the market that prioritizes both environmental consciousness and operational flexibility.

The Strategic Importance of the i-DM Technology

At the heart of the new Jetour T1 i-DM lies the Intelligent Dual Mode system. This proprietary technology is engineered to optimize the synergy between a high-efficiency gasoline engine and a high-torque electric motor. Unlike traditional hybrids that rely solely on regenerative braking to charge small batteries, the i-DM system allows for external charging, enabling the vehicle to operate in pure electric mode for daily commutes while maintaining a gasoline reserve for extended journeys.

Moch. Ranggy Radiansyah, the Marketing Director of PT Jetour Sales Indonesia, emphasized during the launch that the T1 i-DM was designed to address specific consumer "pain points" in the Indonesian market. He noted that while interest in electrification is at an all-time high, the transition is often hampered by practical concerns.

"Interest in electrification continues to grow," Radiansyah stated. "But at the same time, many consumers are still worried about mileage, charging infrastructure, and the flexibility of using electrified vehicles in daily activities. Currently, the market is in a transition phase towards full electrification. Consumers need vehicles that are efficient, comfortable to use, provide an optimal driving experience, and remain flexible for long-distance travel. This is where i-DM becomes our starting point. We present hybrid technology with an adaptive way of working according to travel conditions, so users do not need to adjust to the technology. Instead, the technology will adjust to the needs of the user."

Technical Specifications and Performance Metrics

The Jetour T1 i-DM is powered by a 1,500 cc turbocharged gasoline engine specifically tuned for hybrid applications. This engine produces a maximum power output of 136 PS at 5,200 rpm and a peak torque of 220 Nm at 2,500 rpm. However, the true performance capability is unlocked when paired with the electric drive system. The integrated electric motor contributes a substantial 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, providing the immediate throttle response characteristic of electric vehicles.

Power is managed through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which is designed to handle the complex power delivery of both the engine and the motor seamlessly. To store energy, Jetour has opted for a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. LFP batteries are increasingly favored in the industry for their thermal stability, safety profile, and longer life cycles compared to traditional nickel-based chemistries.

One of the most compelling figures released during the launch is the vehicle’s total cruising range. Jetour claims that with a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the T1 i-DM can travel up to 1,200 kilometers. This range effectively eliminates "range anxiety," a primary barrier to EV adoption in Indonesia, where charging stations are currently concentrated in major urban centers like Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung.

Design Philosophy: Ruggedness Meets Modernity

Visually, the Jetour T1 i-DM follows the "boxy" design trend that has seen a resurgence in the global SUV market. The vehicle features sharp, angular lines, a high beltline, and a commanding road presence. It shares a strong family resemblance with the Jetour T2, a model that has gained international acclaim for its off-road capabilities. However, the T1 differentiates itself by omitting the rear-mounted spare tire—often referred to locally as the "konde"—resulting in a cleaner, more streamlined rear profile that maintains its "macho" appeal while appearing more suited for urban environments.

The exterior is further enhanced by large overfenders, prominent wheel arches, and a futuristic lighting signature. The front fascia is dominated by a bold grille and LED headlights that give the vehicle a high-tech, adventurous look. This design strategy targets a demographic of "urban adventurers"—professionals who require a sophisticated vehicle for city driving during the week but demand a capable and rugged machine for weekend excursions.

Global Success and Market Context

The T1 is a cornerstone of Jetour’s international expansion. Globally, the T1 series has already recorded sales of approximately 169,000 units across various regions, including the Middle East, South America, and other parts of Asia. This proven track record provides a level of assurance to Indonesian buyers regarding the model’s reliability and global standards.

In Indonesia, Jetour enters a competitive landscape where Chinese manufacturers like BYD, Great Wall Motor (GWM), and Chery (Jetour’s parent company) are aggressively expanding their footprints. The T1 i-DM specifically competes in the burgeoning hybrid SUV segment, going up against established players and new entrants alike. By pricing the T1 i-DM at Rp 558 million, Jetour is positioning itself as a premium yet accessible alternative to more expensive European or Japanese hybrids.

Pricing Strategy and Consumer Incentives

To stimulate early adoption, PT Jetour Sales Indonesia has introduced an aggressive pricing strategy for the T1 lineup. The flagship T1 i-DM (PHEV) is officially priced at Rp 558,000,000. However, for the first 500 customers, Jetour is offering a special promotional price of Rp 538,000,000.

Recognizing that a portion of the market still prefers traditional powertrains, Jetour also launched the T1 TGDI, a conventional gasoline version powered by a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 170 PS and 270 Nm of torque. This variant is priced at Rp 408,000,000, with a special early-bird price of Rp 388,000,000 for the first 500 buyers. This dual-track strategy allows Jetour to capture two distinct price points and consumer preferences within the same model line.

Broader Implications for the Indonesian Automotive Industry

The launch of the Jetour T1 i-DM reflects a broader trend in the Indonesian automotive sector: the rise of the "bridge technology." While the Indonesian government has set ambitious targets for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) adoption, including the goal of having 2 million electric cars on the road by 2030, the reality of geography and infrastructure means that PHEVs and HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) are likely to play a crucial role for the next decade.

Industry analysts suggest that Jetour’s entry into the PHEV space will force competitors to re-evaluate their hybrid offerings. The 1,200 km range claim, in particular, sets a new benchmark for efficiency in the mid-sized SUV segment. Furthermore, the decision to use LFP batteries aligns with Indonesia’s national interest in developing a local battery supply chain, as the country seeks to leverage its massive nickel and mineral reserves to become a global hub for EV production.

Chronology of Jetour’s Entry into Indonesia

The launch of the T1 i-DM is the culmination of a phased entry strategy by Jetour in Indonesia:

  1. Initial Announcement (2023-2024): Jetour announced its intention to enter the Indonesian market, conducting feasibility studies and establishing PT Jetour Sales Indonesia.
  2. Brand Debut (Early 2025): The brand officially debuted at major Indonesian auto shows, showcasing models like the Dashing and X70P to gauge consumer interest in their "Travel+" brand philosophy.
  3. Network Expansion (Late 2025): Jetour began establishing a network of 3S (Sales, Service, Spare parts) dealerships across Java and Sumatra.
  4. The T1 i-DM Launch (June 3, 2026): The official launch of the brand’s first electrified model in Indonesia, marking the start of its green energy roadmap.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

As Jetour begins deliveries of the T1 i-DM, the focus will shift to the development of after-sales support and the expansion of its charging network. For the Indonesian consumer, the T1 i-DM offers a compelling proposition: a vehicle that looks like a rugged off-roader, performs like a modern electric car, and possesses the stamina of a traditional diesel cruiser.

The success of the T1 i-DM will likely determine Jetour’s future product pipeline in Indonesia. If the market responds positively to the i-DM technology, it is expected that the brand will introduce more PHEV and potentially full BEV models in the coming years. For now, the T1 i-DM stands as a testament to the evolving nature of the Indonesian car market—a market that is increasingly demanding, tech-savvy, and ready to embrace the future of mobility, one hybrid step at a time.
